Book Review: Blindsided by Amy Daws

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Blindsided by Amy Daws a book available for free on Kindle Prime Reading. This book is the second book in The Harris Brothers World, however can be read as a standalone.

Daws pairs Freya Cook “Cookie” the invisible plus size seamstress in body and spirit who is used to offering cheeky punch lines as she helps dress London’s finest and the famous Scottish footballer Maclay “Mac” Logan the loud mouth, tattooed, ginger together for nights of Netflixing and bickering and for a year their friendship remains platonic until a game of Never have I Ever changes the dynamic between them.

Freya is an almost thirty-year-old virgin who gets tongue-tied around the other sex because of her body image issues and she wants a date for an upcoming wedding so she agrees to let her best friend Mac give her some lessons in seduction, what can go wrong? Any avid reader could see the outcome of this agreement a mile away.

The one little twist, Mac doesn’t know she’s a virgin, he only thinks she’s having a wee dry spell. This makes an interesting conversation when he finds out about her “maiden tag” and a plan is forged between the two for Mac to take her virginity, because what are best mates for after all? Again the outcome is too obvious, maybe Daws wanted it this way?

The lack of tension, the obvious plot line, Freya’s over-obsessions with cats, the TV show Heartland, and Canadian cowboys are like background noises over Freya’s and Mac’s constant bickering which becomes borderline annoying. They can barely spend twenty-four hours without being in a fight, a big fight, or something, or other you get the gist. Yet, somehow their witty banter, bickering, and the refreshing honesty between the two is what made this a 2.5 stars read.
