ROXANNA CROSS

Erotic romance you can really bite into!

Book Review: Moon Kissed: The Marked Wolf #1 by Jen L. Grey

Rating: 2 out of 5.

This is a paranormal fated mate romance. Emma and Aidan are introduced as the main characters. They’re teenagers from enemy packs, so they sneak around to meet at their packs’ respective borderlines. On Emma’s fourteenth birthday, they share a kiss, and Aidan notices a mark on her neck. He leaves and never returns to their spot. Emma is devastated but forced by her pack, even her parents, to move on.

This book has a YA vibe and voice with alternating points of view; regrettably, Grey doesn’t differ her tone from one voice to the next, which makes it difficult to connect to the characters and makes this a monotone reading experience.

Grey tackles subjects such as manipulation, control, and power play with shifter politics. Emma is forced to move on into a relationship with the alpha’s son Jacob, and to gain his way; he uses his influence with his father and her parents to get what he wants out of their relationship. He treats Emma as a trophy to control and dominate. This storyline only intensified the YA vibe.

While at college, Emma and Aidan find each other again, and their bond makes it hard for her to ignore him even if he’s being a complete a-hole. Emma fights against fate. Aidan wrestles with the decision he made as a teen to stay away from her. Grey switches POV so often that the story gets choppy, and so many things are happening. Secrets are revealed, danger looms all around, and they get help from an unlikely source.

There’s great potential in the storyline, but the flatness of the writing, unlikable characters, and the cliffhanger ending made this a 2-star read. Perhaps the next book in the series, Chosen Wolf: The Mark Wolf #2, will better explain what’s going on with a better flow and more relatable characters.
