ROXANNA CROSS

Erotic romance you can really bite into!

Book Review: Broken Curse: The Marked Wolf#3 by Jen L. Grey

Rating: 2 out of 5.

In this third and final book of the paranormal fated mate romance series, Emma and Aidan must fight a war by undoing century-old teachings dating back to the original Alpha and original Witch. With the help of their newfound friends, they must undo the antiquated chauvinistic views within the packs that women can’t be leaders and must hold subservient roles and that witches are abominations of nature and should be killed. On the flip side of the coin, the witches embrace women’s power, allowing their covens to be led by high priestesses and fully support a new world order where peace would reign between the two races.

The alternating POV is less jumpy if still without any distinguishing characteristic in Grey’s voice to differentiate the two; however, the improved flow at least provides better insight into what’s going on in the moment. Grey’s voice and vibe remain in the YA camp, touching on subjects that would most likely appeal to teens and young adult readers, such as duplicity, betrayal, forgiveness, and reluctant acceptance.

Grey sets a fast, action-packed, and adrenaline-pumping pace to wrap up this storyline. It’s easy to lose track of what is going on and which characters are in which battle because the pacing moves so quickly that it’s nearly impossible to connect with what is going on. Everything is rushed to the end.

For a plotline that held so much potential, Grey didn’t do it justice by not giving readers a chance to get to know the characters with her monotone script instead of giving each of them their unique voice to bring them to life. The lack of emotions and rushed pace make it practically impossible to attempt a connection to the story. This is another 2-star read.
