This box set collection includes three Fated Mates romances. The first book in the set is Her Three Bear Shifters. Adira, Andreas, Zane, and Zander are introduced as the main characters in this reverse harem retelling of Goldilocks and her Three Bears. In this story, it’s not the porridge that’s too hot or the chair that’s too hard; it’s her mates.
Cullen’s insta-love plotline works for the bear shifters because of the mate bond; however, for Adira, it felt forced and out of character for her because of the upbringing she describes, and so is the easy, trusting nature she displays when they find her in the woods especially when she keeps thinking about the serial killer shows she watches. It just doesn’t track. Cullen’s attempts to address these mundane issues are overshadowed by the sex and the subplot line of poaching, which is far more believable and one that Adira takes to heart and wants to help fight against.
The repetitiveness in the explicit scenes got borderline annoying, and so did Cullen’s use of words such as but not limited to tunnel, canal, or large golden apple. Let’s call a spade a spade, please, and cease the unnecessary embellished names for pussy and cock.
Even though the outcomes of both plots of insta-love and poaching are predictable, this is still a 2.5-star read.
