For me, the kid at heart is that little girl within who gets excited when she walks into a bookstore and can’t pick and choose because the possibilities are endless. She ends up wanting all the books.
The little girl gets giddy over yarns of all sorts: fingering, light, medium, worsted, or chunky; no matter, it’s yarn galore. She likes finding treasures like new patterns or creating new ones for fun and trying out that new crochet set that lights up and counts stitches and rows. I mean, how cool is that?
My kid at heart is the one who goes completely gaga when I discover an old recipe from my grandma in a book; whether it’s her homemade spicy tomato chutney or the pickled beets, she’s over the moon and the love I feel while making these newfound recipes, that connection to a different time when I used to spread flour over countertops to help my grandma knead bread dough. The smell of fresh bread fills the air. It just all wraps around me.
I believe we all have that kid within who still enjoys life’s simple pleasures like a summer picnic, going down the hill in a toboggan, participating in a three-legged race, having a snowball fight with friends, going out trick-or-treating, building that first snowman. I look forward to doing all these things with my family and friends. It’s what keeps me young and my kid at heart alive.
