ROXANNA CROSS

Erotic romance you can really bite into!

Book review: Snowed In with the Billionaire by Lila Monroe

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

This Christmas novella is a quick, sexy, and fun read. Monroe writes in the first person through the female character Paige Bartlett, a party planner who’s decided to launch her company. Her first big client is an ex-rock star turned music executive, Ace Carmichael. The party is at his Aspen chalet, but an unexpected blizzard finds them snowed in together. Paige tries to maintain her professional decorum, and Ace keeps pushing the boundaries of her uptight southern upbringing to make Paige’s wild girl streaks emerge.

Although this is a short novella, the characters are well-rounded, and Monroe lets the readers know their intellect through their witty quips, easy-going banter, Paige’s inner thought process, and many mantras. However, one of Paige’s inner freak-out monologues when Ace tells her to relax is cleverly written:

Relax, and I don’t have much in common. We tried going together about five years ago, and I kept annoying Relax with my general attitude. He hasn’t called since, though I still text him on his birthday.

Kudos to Monroe on that one and others like it throughout the book.

This story is fast-paced, and readers can appreciate finishing the book in one sitting, with one slight downfall. The end of the book is not just fast-paced; it’s rushed and lacks emotions. Perhaps Monroe was working with a word count limit and wrapped up the story with the required HEA with a neat bow, but it felt hollow, so this made this a 2.5-star read.
