Erotic romance you can really bite into!

Book review: Christmas with the Billionaire by Lila Monroe

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

This Christmas novella is a quick, sexy, and fun read written in alternate POVs between the two main characters: Jill Simon, a struggling actress looking for a big break that will land her on Broadway, and Oliver Gage, a big-shot producer who barely lifts an eyebrow during auditions yet still manages to crush dreams.

In this short ninety-five-page piece, Monroe brings to life these complex individuals. Jill can be hot-tempered and quick to judge, and Oliver can be reserved and blasé, which is quite the conundrum. Things get interesting when the two of them get snowed in upstate New York after a holiday party. Monroe’s laid it on thick with the fake dating, yet the hilarity of their over-the-top muffin bearing, sweet poohing, each other, or whatever ridiculous pet name they came up with somehow makes it work.

As in many novellas, the action is fast-paced, but the ending wraps up quickly as if Monroe was limited in her word count to get to the true ending she desired, in a rush to wrap the story in a neat, happy way as the formula demands it made it so it doesn’t read as genuine and leaves readers in a hollow mood at the end, making the entire reading experience a 2.5-star read.
