If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

My little devil of a beagle, who will be two years old later this month doesn’t understand the word heel. This means when we go on walks, this little guy is the one running the show.

He pulls the leash and takes us where his nose leads. He’ll grunt and sniff and yip excitedly and sniff some more until he finds a spot he absolutely must dig. Furiously, his paws will start clawing, his entire body shaking with excitement, and then he’ll bury his nose and howl in triumph. It’s a bit maddening, funny, and adorable.

But it would be nice if he could learn to heel and walk sedately instead of pulling me full speed ahead every time we step out the door.
