Last fall, a friend issued a challenge: write a short story without sex. To me, the erotica writer who uses intimacy has a storytelling language for exploring vulnerability, power, and connection.
Stripping it away terrified me. I wrote about the struggle this posed in previous posts. How difficult I found it not to let my fingers fly over the keys in their usual carnal tendencies to build the story up.
Then something happened. What began as a short, no-spice challenge grew into something deeper: darker, paranormal, romantasy. Next thing I knew, I had a slow-burning tension and emotional gravity novella on my hands.
Without explicit scenes, the connection had to breathe differently. It had to live in glances, restraint, in proximity. I suppose in many ways it became more intense because of it. This novella taught something important: desire doesn’t disappear just because it isn’t shown.
Sometimes it becomes sharper.
Now that I’ve polished and refined it, I’m preparing to release this challenge story-turned-novella. It’s not erotica. It’s not tame either. It’s tension. It’s longing. Its paranormal romantasy built on restraint.
If you followed the original post, this is the evolution.
If you love slow-burn energy and emotional pull without explicit spice, this one is for you.
Launch details coming soon.
