ROXANNA CROSS

Fantasy Romance with Teeth Soul and Ruin

Book Review: Fallen #4, Rapture, by Lauren Kate

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Delacorte Press published the fourth Fallen installment in June 2012. The book is available on Amazon in hardcover, paperback, Kindle, and audiobook formats, at local libraries, and through the Libby app.

As the story unfolds, Lucifer’s got a world-ending plan: wipe out the present and rewrite history. Luce, Daniel, and their squad are all that’s standing in his way.

Building on this tension, Kate totally nails atmosphere, painting stormy skies with so many wings you can’t see the sun, sandstorms that sting your eyes, and only gray dust left behind where angels fall. You’re right there in the thick of it.

In this storyline, Kate reveals the last secrets of Luce and Daniel’s eternal love, and the curse that keeps them apart. However, these awe-struck moments fell flat because it isn’t a shocker that Luce is a fallen angel, or that Daniel wasn’t her first love. The curse born of jealousy.

Pain, love, and evil. A world on the edge of collapse, Heaven intervenes. Who wins: The Throne, Luce, and Daniel, or Lucifer? The final twist: God is female. Aside from specifying that the deity is a woman, Kate doesn’t use this detail to advance the plot forward. A weak ending to an epic love story. Easy 3-star read.
