Indie-published on September 20th, 2023, the third Binding Chronicles book follows Luna and Sebastian as fugitives who battle darkness and fulfill an ancient prophecy.
Unlike the first two books with dual POV, this one adds a third: Queen Marguerite’s, revealing the origin of her hatred for humans. The oldest reason of time, a boy, so predictable. Because this boy once broke her heart, Sebastian and Luna must stop Marguerite’s centuries-old revenge on humankind at all costs, even death.
In Luna’s POV, Gallea explores how her sun-walking abilities set her apart from other vampires. Through repeated descriptions of snow, cold, and ice, we see how lucky she is not to be human anymore; otherwise, she wouldn’t survive this terrain.
Sebastian’s POV is half repeats of “she’s mine,” gushing about how proud he is to have her, how she’s the light to his darkness, and how he doesn’t deserve her. The other half is him agonizing over the darkness. Gallea offers no new insight into his personality. Since his POV doesn’t advance the storyline, it wouldn’t have made a difference if cut out entirely.
The battle near the end is so anticlimactic it’s laughable. It makes for a disappointing end to the series, earning a 1.5-star rating.
